I already expected what would be the end of this story since I was spoiled by a friend @Nyanccoli However, that does not take away that the story is an inevitable tear-jerker at the end. Slowly building to the point of no return.
Inevitability is something that makes us become the best or the worst. In this case, it gave birth to a strange but powerful feeling of love and acceptance.
Gin and Hotaru experienced love as each summer passed, and in the end, in the last few seconds of Gin’s existence, they both embraced the inevitable and accepted their fate wholeheartedly.
Gin finally achieves his dream of being touched and hugged in exchange for his borrowed life, and Hotaru finally can express her bottled-up feelings towards Gin.
Truly a great story of star-crossed lovers <3
