Here’s my take after reading the initial chapter of the raw Grashros by Muneyuki Kaneshiro (Story) and Akeji Fujimura, (Art).
The moment that I saw the cover page of this manga caught my attention, it is resonating the feel of Takehiko Inoue’s Vagabond but with a primal feel being set during the period of cro-magnons 30,000 years ago.
The story mainly focuses on the birth of the child that will go against destiny: Akuu. It may sound cliche but it works for me
Immediately, the story brings us to its primitive universe where everything is stripped to its bare basics. Everything is well drawn and the art does not separate from the narrative of the story and it feels cohesive.
The characters are easy to identify and differentiate from each other which is a great thing since it shows us that each of the characters is well thought out and researched for this story.
It was after reading the initial chapter of this story that I realized that it was created by a combo mangaka. I love combos!
With that being said I will give Grashros initial chapter 9 Volga horns out of 10.
